Kirkeporten sami offering site

Kirkeporten sami offering site

This rock formation is a geological wonder a fissure several metres wide in a cliff overhang shaped like a big gate. The midnight sun shines through this gate between midnight and two in the morning. The views of the rock formation “Hornet” are breathtaking.

To get there, follow the 2.5 km long path starting at Kirkeporten Camping and Nordkapp Turisthotell. The walk there and back takes around 45 minutes

Visit the northernmost fishing village in the world! I am happy to invite you to Skarsvåg, one of the small fishing villages at the island of Magerøya , nearby the North Cape !

Here you can meet the fishery population, living and working in a very busy village when the fishing season is here. You will also have the chance to see the fishing boats, a fishery plant, family houses, hotels, camping areas and a public school. You could even try to fish!

If you have questions concerning the daily life in the village or about the arts and craft, I will do my best to answer!

For those who are interested, there is also a possibility for a special arrangement to visit one of the family houses in the village. You might also take a trip to look at the fishing boats.

If you are lucky, you will be there when the fishermen land their fish, and the Julehuset serves fresh king crab every day. In the spring- and summertime there are a lot of reindeer in the area.

The North Cape

The North Cape (Norway) is northern Scandinavia's most popular travel destination - and for good reason. The North Cape is a monumental natural experience, along with breathtaking views, unusual climatic conditions, the dramatic cliff itself and the fact that one is standing at Europe's northern end.

The cape includes a 307-metre (1,007 ft) high cliff with a large flat plateau on top where visitors can stand and watch the midnight sun or the views of the Barents Sea to the north. A new visitor center was built in 1988 on the plateau with panoramic views, a cafe, restaurant, post office, souvenir shop, and a so-called super video cinema

The steep cliff of North Cape is often (mistakenly) referred to as the northernmost point of Europe, located at 71°10′21″N 25°47′40″E, about 2,102.3 kilometres (1,306.3 mi) from the North Pole. However, the neighbouring Knivskjellodden point, just to the west actually extends 1,457 metres (4,780 ft) farther to the north.

The North Cape is the point where the Norwegian Sea, part of the Atlantic Ocean, meets the Barents Sea, part of the Arctic Ocean.
